Krásná stráň has conditions that are unique for the Czech Republic. The rocky, southeast-facing slope has an almost Mediterranean climate. Thanks to that, our largest lizard thrives here, as do succulents. Incidentally, nearby Dobřichovice holds the record for the highest temperature ever measured in the Czech Republic.

You can park on the flat area in the old quarry. From there you can scramble up a little path onto the ridge and follow it all the way to the top. In summer, though, it can be fairly overgrown and it may be better to use the green trail. It’s only a small detour.

Koukolova hora

Koukolova hora is one of my favourite places for a trip, especially in spring when the liverworts are in bloom. In the old quarry below the summit in particular, whole carpets of them come out. Kids who aren’t that much into admiring flowers will certainly enjoy crawling through the short caves.

The route is quite a steep climb at first, but after that it’s practically all downhill.

I recommend taking the train to get here.

Solvay Quarries and Svatý Jan pod Skalou

The Solvay Quarries are an open-air museum of stone quarrying. Kids will love the ride on the little train. Visit their website for more information.

The route continues to a viewpoint above Svatý Jan pod Skalou and then plunges down into the village.

The route assumes you take the bus to Bubovice, which runs from Řevnice or Zličín. You need to plan your time so that you catch the bus from Svatý Jan pod Skalou, ideally to Beroun. Otherwise the trip gets considerably longer, whether you head to Srbsko or to Beroun.
