A nice trip near Zbiroh. You can park comfortably by the local inn. The start of the route follows the road and isn’t very interesting.

However, once you join the green-marked trail, you get into a nice forest and soon start coming across small rocks. A pleasant path along a rocky ridge leads to the summit of Světovina. From there you drop steeply down to a junction and follow the yellow trail to the Čertovy skály (Devil’s Rocks).

A trip in the Křivoklát forests to a lookout tower with a poetic name and an interesting design. A short way before the top there is a little garden of thoughts. For kids it’s interesting mainly because the path is nicely laid out.

I recommend visiting in autumn, when the surrounding forests turn beautiful colours.

This route is also suitable for pushchairs, but you need to allow for the elevation gain. You can also skip the summit and just walk around Krušná hora, which is a nice walk too.

Točník Castle

Točník Castle, which peeks out from its hilltop as you drive along the motorway from Plzeň to Prague, can be reached in other ways than driving right up to it.

This route starts in the village of Hředle and there’s a proper climb right at the beginning. But then the worst is behind you. Once you’ve conquered it, the path only descends gently from there.

Točník is especially interesting for kids thanks to the bears living in the castle moat.

Vraní skála

A short walk to a nice viewpoint. You can park in the small car park next to the cemetery.

The path is easy. Only the final stretch to the summit involves a steep climb, and towards the end you even get to touch some rock, which the kids will appreciate.

At the top the views are described in an interesting way, using labelled tubes that you look through to see the given landmark.
