Great accommodation for a family with kids. Loads of toys. The pool is quite cold, but the kids don’t mind. Martin and Zuzka also keep various animals.

Cvikov

A loop around Zelený vrch near Cvikov passes two viewpoints. Schiller’s viewpoint in particular offers a lovely view of the Lusatian Mountains. At the Forest Theatre the kids can try out what it’s like to be an actor.

Parking is right next to a small playground.

As a reward you can treat yourselves to something tasty at the nearby brewery.

Grabštejn Castle

The castle, which was almost completely devastated, hides a surprising treasure in the form of the gold-decorated Chapel of St. Barbara. They offer tours for children.

Kyjov Valley

Although the name suggests a place in Moravia, this rocky gorge is on the other side of the country.

A very nice walk. Kids will love climbing along the rocky paths, the ladders and the animal sculptures.

Lemberk Castle

A walk to Lemberk Castle past several local points of interest, including Zdislava’s spring. At the castle you can, for example, climb the tower.

The walk to the highest peak of the Lusatian Mountains is manageable even for kids, because you can drive up fairly high. From Chata Luž, where there’s a big car park, it isn’t that far.

There’s a lookout tower on the summit.

Oybin

A slightly more demanding route, but one that’s definitely worth it!

You’ll get your fill of rocks and viewpoints.

If your legs are already aching in Oybin, one of the adults has to go and fetch the car. We made it more fun for the kids by having them ride the local historic narrow-gauge railway with their mum, while I went for the car and picked them up in Bertsdorf so they could enjoy the ride.

Restaurant in the glassworks

A stylish restaurant where you can watch glassblowers at work. The food is good and there’s a small kids’ corner outside too.

Sloup v Čechách

A loop that takes you through the rocks around Sloup v Čechách.

Right at the start you need to climb past the Rock Theatre up to the lookout tower. After that the profile is friendlier and the only bigger climb left is up to Samuel’s Cave.

The unusual rock castle with a statue of a hermit is worth a visit.

Tolštejn Castle and Jedlová lookout tower

From the small car park below the castle you set off for the ruin of Tolštejn Castle. From there you continue towards the second-highest peak in the Děčín district, topped by the stone lookout tower Jedlová. Besides a restaurant, there is also a rope park next to the tower.

While you’re in this part of the world, I recommend a visit to the Kocour brewery in nearby Varnsdorf – besides beer they cook excellent food, and on the grounds the kids can see peacocks and other animals.

A hike up to a summit with a lookout tower. The volcanic rocks that make up the hill are full of magnetite, so don’t use a compass here 😎.

Parking is right next to the playground, and at the end you can visit the home of the natural cosmetics maker Nobilis. Besides a little shop and a café, there is also a beautiful garden with attractions for kids.
