A very easy route in Längenfeld running largely along the river. Doable with a stroller too. The way downstream is livened up by outdoor gym stations. The easiest option is to park at the swimming pool.

Sattele Route treasure hunt

This treasure hunt is a lovely alpine hike for kids. Along the way at Marlstein you pass a playground, and you can get refreshments at the Feldringer Alm, which you reach by descending across mountain meadows with beautiful views. From there it’s a quick trip back to the car park along a descending path.

A superb trail around the waterfall. I recommend taking the bus from Umhausen up to Niederthai and walking down alongside the waterfall.

Zirbenwald Obergurgl treasure hunt

A trip through a forest of the local unique pines. This treasure hunt requires you to answer questions about the forest correctly. The information boards along the path will help you.

You can extend the route a little to a viewpoint over the waterfall.

Kazín

A trip to what is probably the prettiest viewpoint over the Berounka valley in the area.

Along the way you can stop to admire the trees and shrubs in the Všenory arboretum. Here you’ll find a great swing, another one here, and you can grill some sausages too; and after scrambling past the rock where the castle of Libuše’s sister Kazi supposedly once stood, you can dip your feet in the Berounka and get something tasty at Tornádo.

Panna and Kalich

A trip to a castle founded by Jan Žižka himself. Admission is charged at weekends to cover the cost of maintaining the ruins. The climb is pretty steep, but the views are worth it!

You can extend the route with a visit to the nearby ruins of Panna. Nobody looks after that one, but the little rocks on the top and the views are lovely as well. In Řepčice you can refresh yourselves with water from the spring.

Sedlo

The climb up Sedlo is pretty steep, but if you have little mountain goats at home, they will surely love it, because they definitely won’t be bored. There are plenty of small rocks along the way and the views are superb.

Hazmburk Castle

A walk up to one of the most scenic castle ruins in the country. Its unmistakable silhouette can be seen from far away.

The sweeping views from the top of the castle tower, over the Central Bohemian Uplands, Říp and beyond, are truly superb. I’d therefore recommend saving the visit for a day with good visibility.

The ascent from the east and then along the red trail is manageable even with an all-terrain pram.

A short walk along the nature trail from Borotín to a romantic castle ruin and a Baroque farmstead that is being beautifully restored.

Choustník

A short walk to an extensive castle ruin. It can be done with a pram too.

If you don’t have one and your kids like scrambling over rocks, you can follow a beautiful little path along the rocky ridge and pick up a geocache or two along the way.

Kozí Hrádek

A walk through the forest around the remains of a small castle where Jan Hus once stayed. They’ve put together a nice nature trail with comics about it.

The walk is made even nicer by a game reserve with fallow deer and other animals, or perhaps by the low-flying planes from the nearby airfield.

A route over the Kreuzkogel to the Harbachhutte, near which there are several installations dedicated to the individual elements.

The most engaging stop was the one where you identify various herbs and spices by smell. The mushroom-shaped toilet was good fun.

A route around the top station of the cable car dedicated to the superpowers of animals. Can you jump like a deer, overcome obstacles like a squirrel, or crawl through a burrow like a marmot?

Depending on their performance the kids get 1-3 points, which they mark on a card with the pliers. Once they complete all the stations, a reward at the bottom station of the cable car is guaranteed.

A climb of almost 300 m of elevation gain to a proper alpine hut. You can buy things like local milk with blueberries or blueberry cake here.

Although the metres of ascent may seem like a lot, 15 stamps await the kids over 2 kilometres. That’s one almost every 150 metres! The way passes quickly. You can pick up the stamp booklet, which doubles as a colouring book, at the information centre.

A nicely made nature trail about peat bogs. Don’t forget to pick up the accompanying booklet at the bottom of the cable car.

At each stop you need to answer a question, which gives you a letter for the final puzzle. If you put the word together correctly, the kids get a reward at the bottom of the cable car.

A trail with stops for children in the resort known for the women’s World Cup ski slalom. It starts at the top station of starjet1.

Along the way you answer questions and collect the letters of the final word. Once solved, the kids get a reward at the bottom station of the cable car.

At the top station you can see birds of prey.

A walk to the middle station of the cable car during which you learn about alpine fauna and flora.

At each stop you punch the corresponding box in a booklet with a pair of pliers; you can pick up the booklet at the bottom station of the cable car.

At the Heimalm by the middle station the kids can then collect a reward.

Whatever you walk down you of course have to walk back up, but it is definitely worth it!

Světovina

A nice trip near Zbiroh. You can park comfortably by the local inn. The start of the route follows the road and isn’t very interesting.

However, once you join the green-marked trail, you get into a nice forest and soon start coming across small rocks. A pleasant path along a rocky ridge leads to the summit of Světovina. From there you drop steeply down to a junction and follow the yellow trail to the Čertovy skály (Devil’s Rocks).

Krásná stráň

Krásná stráň has conditions that are unique for the Czech Republic. The rocky, southeast-facing slope has an almost Mediterranean climate. Thanks to that, our largest lizard thrives here, as do succulents. Incidentally, nearby Dobřichovice holds the record for the highest temperature ever measured in the Czech Republic.

You can park on the flat area in the old quarry. From there you can scramble up a little path onto the ridge and follow it all the way to the top. In summer, though, it can be fairly overgrown and it may be better to use the green trail. It’s only a small detour.
