Salzburg region with kids

The southern and south-eastern Salzburg region is great for an active holiday with kids. Mountains reachable by cable car, lots of playgrounds, water parks, marble runs, gorges and the city of Salzburg itself!

The area is divided by the individual valleys and by how the mountain resorts are grouped together.

There are three large parts. The Gastein valley, Hochkönig and the area grouped under Snowspace (around Wagrain). Then there are individual resorts such as Zauchersee, Rauris or Filzmoos.

Depending on what you want to visit, how long you are staying and on the weather, you can pick one of the cards that the individual regions offer.

For kids the most interesting area is probably Snowspace and its 12 Peak Adventure Card. This card also includes Geisterberg and Grafenberg, which since 2025 are no longer in the Salzburgerland Card.

Hochkönig has the HochkönigCard.

Gastein has the Gastein Card.

The last two you can get as part of your accommodation and they serve mostly for discounts.

And as if that were not enough, Salzburg also has its own card.

What to choose? As written above, it depends on your preferences, the length of your stay and the weather.

If you know you want to see Salzburg, go to a water park at least once, play minigolf and do not mind too much skipping Geisterberg (or paying for it separately), then the Salzburgerland Card will most likely pay off for you; it covers the whole area and once bought offers a really large range of attractions.

If you want to travel around this part of the Salzburg region, it is ideal to stay somewhere around Sankt Johann im Pongau, which lies in the middle of the area, so you can get everywhere within an hour’s drive.
