Skiing with kids

With the lack of snow in recent winters, it is a fair question whether to teach kids to ski at all, but we love skiing, so we want to teach the kids too.

We left the first steps to the instructors. I think it was a good choice. The kids learned the proper basics, and they listened to strangers better than to us.

Even now we still occasionally hand them over to instructors to help them improve their technique. You can also find suitable exercises online that you can do with the kids.

Did you know you can ski just a short way from Prague? After work you can pop out to the slope for a while.

My tip is then two resorts in the Ore Mountains. They are small, but ideal for kids. There are not as many people as in the big resorts and the prices are reasonable.

Alšovka is close to the motorway to Germany. Two lifts. One bigger, for better skiers. The other small, very pleasant for kids. With a parent’s pass, kids ski for free up to the age of 7.

Pyšná is a tiny resort run by the local ski club. You have to walk a short way to the lift. The rope tow is for a voluntary contribution. Instructors can be booked online; new slots are posted, I think, every Monday at 13:00. Unfortunately they often have trouble with snow.

Alpine resorts offer families with kids ski passes that can be transferred between parents, and skiing for kids up to 6 for a low price.
