The airy Ahornbahn cable car takes you up above the small town of Mayrhofen. The car park is right next to it, and once you have used the cable car the parking fee is considerably cheaper.

Kids will especially enjoy the water fun at the playground by Lake Ahornsee. At the other one, the FalknerOase, there are birds of prey shows.

A trip here works even in worse weather, because the top station has a great play room run by Ravensburger, the company that makes all sorts of games and puzzles. Even the dads will keep themselves busy for a while with the marble run construction set.

Collecting stamps

Collecting stamps is a way to motivate kids and liven up their trips.

The Zillertal area offers several options.

A few places offer them separately:

Eggalm - EggAlm Hiking Rally, if you collect at least three stamps and answer the questions correctly, you get a reward. You get the stamp leaflet at the ticket office.
Rosenalm - walk the trail, discover the story of the Fichtenschloss and collect the stamps. You get the stamp leaflet at the top station. Hand it in at the ticket office at the bottom, for example.

Eggalmbahn

The Eggalmbahn cable car is located in the village of Tux. Right next to it there is a large free car park and the information centre for the Tux area.

At the top station there is the AlmSpielerei water playground. A big draw for kids is floating rubber ducks down the water channels. The ducks can be bought in the nearby restaurant.

At the bottom station you can pick up a leaflet for the Eggalm Hiking Rally. After collecting at least three stamps at various spots in the Eggalm area and answering a few questions, you can pick up a nice reward at the bottom station of the cable car. We got stylish water bottles.

A mining-themed playground, a big trampoline and a great bouldering wall with routes for kids. Minigolf is available. Parking right next to the playground. There is a parking meter, but two hours are free.

The walk between Gerlos and Gmünd is also suitable for pushchairs. The path runs nicely along the river. Along the way you will come across several tree houses and trout ponds.

For older kids there are also two stories in Locandy: Der Kristall der Wünsche and Der Fluch des Hexenmeisters . Unfortunately only in German. You get the additional materials at the information centre in Gerlos.

The biggest draw, however, is the huge playground. You will find a marble run, climbing frames, slides and trampolines here. Fun is guaranteed.

Hintertux- Luis Glacier Bug Safari & Luis Marble Run Safari

A trip to the Hintertux glacier. The Zillertal Active Card is only valid up to the middle station (Sommerberg). If you want to go higher, you have to pay extra.

The playground is part of the TuxWelten and consists of water features and marble runs. Its mascot is Luis the glacier flea. It forms a short loop that is better walked anticlockwise (start at the water section). You then walk the marble run from the top and the kids do not have to go back. At the water section there is also diamond fishing, which our kids liked.

Isskogelbahn

A playground with climbing frames is right next to the top station of the cable car. More attractions, including a long marble run and several water features, can be found along a short loop that climbs up to the Latschensee reservoir and then back past a restaurant with another playground.

In summer 2024 stops for an interactive game in Locandy were also being built here.

If your kids can handle a bigger elevation gain, you can also conquer the Isskogel summit itself.

A cable car offering a walk along a marble run down to a lake. There are several sculptures there, but their descriptions are only in German. The route then climbs to the nearby Königsleitenspitze summit.

If that is not enough for anyone, you can also pop over to the Falschriedel summit. Or even go as far as Ochsenkopf, but the route along the ridge is a bit more demanding.

Another option is to walk down the Jodelwanderweg trail.

The Penkenbahn cable car runs from the small town of Mayrhofen. Parking is at the Ahorn cable car, which is just a short walk away.

At the top station there is a playground with climbing frames and a water playground. Older kids can rent electric motocross bikes here.

A gentle climb along the ridge takes you to the top station of the Finkenberg cable car, the Pepis Kinderland playground and a lake with the architecturally interesting Granatkapelle chapel. The route is also suitable for pushchairs.

A really big playground at the top of the Finkenberger Almbahnen cable car. A giant statue of Pepi the bear with slides and climbing frames. Trampolines, a sandpit, swings and an extensive obstacle course.

Rosenalm - Fichtenwelt

At the Rosenalm top station you will find the Fichtenschloss children’s park. This playground is five stars. They seem to have thought of everything here. What makes this playground exceptional is that they thought of the parents too. The seating is covered with canvas to provide shade. At 11 the barbecue is lit. If you have not brought anything to put on it, do not despair. Next to it there is a vending machine where you can buy something to grill. Besides food, also things like plates.

Spieljochbahn

The biggest draw of the playground on the Spieljoch is definitely the little boats. Kids can sail them around the pond. You will also find other (not only) water attractions here, so bring the kids either swimwear or at least a change of clothes.

Spieljoch has a mining tradition, and the mine can even be visited. For kids there is also a themed mine maze where you can hear dripping water or falling rocks.

A nice walk through the valley, also suitable for pushchairs, where you learn something about animals, especially insects. It is one of the TuxWelten.

The playgrounds are nicely themed, and you will find water play here too. What thrilled the kids most, though, were the little plaster gnome figures in the forest above Lanersbach near the start/end of the trail. So the bit of climbing needed to discover them is well worth it.

TuxWelten - Wasserwelt

Wasserwelt is honestly probably the least interesting of the TuxWelten trails. Mainly because it spends a long time skirting the giant car park below Hintertux. And some of the stops we never even found. The ones near the cable car, however, are worth a visit. Definitely go and see the waterfall, near which there is a treacherous swing and water squirters.

From the middle station of the Finkenberg Almbahnen you can set off to the little village of Vorderlanersbach along the NaturWelt trail, which is one of the parts of the TuxWelten.

The path is not suitable for pushchairs. Along the route there are several stops with information about the nature and the animals that live here. It descends along the hillside through alpine meadows and forests.

Take the bus back to the bottom station of the cable car.

The Zillertal is an ideal destination for an active holiday with kids. With the Zillertal Active Card you can ride up a different cable car every day, and at its top station you will always find fun for the kids. If the mountains are in the clouds, you can head to one of the playgrounds in the valleys, or perhaps to the play room on the Ahorn. In hot weather, on the other hand, you can cool off in one of the outdoor pools.
